Westhampton Yacht Squadron is offering Adult and Teen Sunfish Lessons this summer on Saturday mornings. No experience is necessary! 

 

Lessons are for adults and teens who are interested in learning to sail and learning about sailboat racing with fellow members. No experience is necessary. Learn how to sail while cruising around the bay being guided by a certified sailing instructor. Skills taught include rigging, launching, boat handling, steering with a tiller, sail trim, leaving then returning to the beach,points of sail, wind, knot tying and sailing safety.


Develop the sailing skills needed to sail around a racecourse including tacking, gybing, and controlling boat speed. 
Build confidence and develop the skills needed to sail in different directions and in different conditions. These lessons will be taught in a Sunfish which is a single-person, 14-foot sailboat that is designed for day sailing and racing.

 

Lessons start at 9:00 AM and go until 11:45 AM.
 
Lesson Dates: June 29th, July 6th, 13th, 20th & 27th & August 3rd, 10th and 17th.

Fee: $475 if using a privately owned Sunfish or $575 if using a club owned Sunfish.


9 spots are available to use a club owned Sunfish for lessons. Reservations for club boats are confirmed during the registration period as a first come first serve.


No refunds after the first week of lessons. 
On inclement days, lessons may occur indoors or on land. If less than six classes are held, a make-up class will be scheduled.
