Practice Races

In addition to WYS Summer Series and Labor Day Races (see WYS Summer Series Races & WYS Labor Day Races), there will be Practice Race days for the Flying Scots on Saturday mornings with the goal of providing more sailboat racing for both inexperienced and experienced WYS racing sailors in a non-regatta environment.

New and inexperienced sailors can participate in and learn about racing while racing with and against more experienced sailors who are practicing and honing their racing skills. New race support volunteers will learn about race management and will work with race officers on the race committee boat or within support/safety boats.

These practice  races are not a “learn to sail program,” but a “learn to race program.” Youth learn sailing at Jr. Sailing Lessons. Adults interested in learning to sail should either register for Saturday morning Adult Sunfish Lessons, Tuesday evening Adult Flying Scot Lessons or inquire about Private Sailing Lessons.

The Flying Scot Fleet sailors and the WYS Race Committee Officers encourage all and welcome all to participate on these Practice Race days and will do everything possible to get you out sailing with an experienced skipper or on a race committee/patrol boat.
