Instructors Championship

The WYS Instructors Championship was held on Sunday, July 20th, 2025.

The perpetual Instructors Championship Plaque will be inscribed with the winner's names and displayed in the WYS Trophy Room. The NOR (Notice of Race) and SI (Sailing Instructions) are posted below.

The Instructors Challenge is designed as a recreational race for WYS employees, families, and invited guests. WYS Instructors (or special invited guests) skipper Flying Scot sailboats. Crew positions are available on a limited basis to WYS members who bid for the opportunity to race with one of the instructors or guest skippers. The highest bidder can select the instructor or guest they want to race with, and the remaining crew positions will be assigned by the Principal Race Officer based on bid value, highest amounts awarded first.

Past Race Results

2025 Fundraiser Benefit - Funds raised by bids from crew positions went to upgrade a donated Flying Scot for racing including replacing the sails.

2023 Fundraiser Benefit - Funds raised by bids from crew positions went to update the WYS sailing fleet.

2022 Fundraiser Benefit - Funds raised by bids from crew positions went to the purchase of sails for the Flying Scot fleet.

2020 Fundraiser Benefit - Funds raised by bids for crew positions went to the purchase a new 420 for WYS. 

Race Results - 2020 Instructors Championship - August 9, 2020

2019 Fundraiser Benefit - Funds raised from bids for crew positions were to benefit WYS Youth and Adult sailors that want to expand their horizons and compete in regional and national sailing events. These funds provided for sailing experiences at a different level for our sailors, and helped to keep WYS on the map on the National sailing level. 

Race Results - 2019 Instructors Championship - August 11, 2019

2018 Fundraiser Benefit - Funds raised by bids for crew positions in the 2018 Instructor's Challenge went to benefit the Donnelly Brothers' campaign to make the Irish 2020 Olympics Sailboat Racing Team in their 49er sailboat. Follow Tadgh and Sean Donnelly on Facebook at  Donnelly Brothers Sailing. Tadgh was an instructor at WYS during the summer of 2016 and hails from Dublin,  Ireland. WYS has hosted instructors from Ireland 2017, 2018 and 2019.
